The current Citrus Burn presentation highlights red pepper. Capsaicinoids, the compounds responsible for chili heat, are among the food-derived ingredients studied for thermogenic effects.
What are capsaicinoids?
Capsaicin and related capsaicinoids activate transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1), a receptor involved in heat and sensory signaling. This provides a plausible pathway for short-term changes in thermogenesis or substrate use.
What does the evidence show?
A systematic review indexed in PubMed reported that capsaicinoids/capsinoids may increase energy expenditure and fat oxidation and may influence appetite. The important nuance is magnitude: average effects in controlled studies are generally small, and results depend on dose, tolerance and study conditions.
Small changes in laboratory endpoints should not be translated into dramatic claims about pounds lost, calories burned, or effortless fat loss.
Dose and formulation matter
Red pepper powder, standardized capsaicin, capsinoids and food-based chili exposure are not interchangeable. A supplement needs a disclosed amount and form before a study can be judged directly relevant. Citrus Burn’s exact current red-pepper amount has not been reconciled in the materials available to us.

Tolerance and gastrointestinal effects vary
Capsaicin-containing foods and supplements can produce burning sensations or gastrointestinal discomfort in some people, while others tolerate them well. Study participants may also become accustomed to sensory effects over time. A product containing a pepper-derived ingredient should therefore be evaluated in the context of the whole formula and the individual user rather than assuming the ingredient is universally comfortable.
