What Factors Influence Metabolic Rate?
Metabolic rate is not controlled by one ingredient or one “switch.” It emerges from body size and composition, organ activity, hormones, genetics, environment and behavior.
Body size and lean mass
Larger bodies generally require more energy to maintain, and lean tissues tend to be more metabolically active than adipose tissue. Organs such as the liver, brain, heart and kidneys contribute disproportionately to resting energy expenditure.
